RESIDENTS BEWARE
It appears that members of our community have received information from Meridian Financial Group in Canada indicating that they had won a shoppers sweepstake lottery. Enclosed in that communication is a check drawn on BBVA Compass Bank in Birmingham, Alabama for the sum of $3,875.00.
This is a scam. Contact with the Balance & Control Office of Compass Bank verifies that these checks are not any good and that whoever is behind this scam is attempting to have people cash the checks and then send some money back to Meridian Financial Group. The money that you send to Meridian Financial Group will be deleted from your bank account and then the cashed check will bounce.
This communication is meant to be of service to you and of a warning to you of a scam that is being perpetrated in this area. If you have any questions concerning these matters, please do not hesitate to contact our local police department.
Remember if it looks to good to be true, it probably is, Don't be taken in by the scam artist.
